I can't believe that I am actually saying this.
My latest obsession is sewing. I did crochet when I was in secondary school for a while, and the only thing I was crocheting back then were necklaces. For a long while I could not even sew a button on a shirt neatly, so I never quite dared to venture into the area of sewing…until I discovered felting. I am really intrigued by felt fabric, and I am not talking about the craft or acrylic felt that we get here from craft shops, rather wool felt, that I can only find online at this moment.
Felt is a medium that is very adaptable to create illustrative designs and lots of whimsical appliques. Apart from wool felt, I have discovered the no-sew method of Needle Felting and simple embroidery techniques. I have been gawking at the felting and embroidery books from Amazon Japan for the last one hour while online.
So there are so many things I plan to create leading up to Christmas. As mentioned, many people on my Christmas list will be stuck with my hand-made gifts. For a start, I tried making a felt clutch bag for myself and added some simple embroidery and embelishments. And I found out last night that my mom keeps a stash of beads at home, so I did not have to buy any.
Will be kept really busy the next couple of weeks working on more cutesy stuff like felties. And then on to more ambitious needle felting+embroidery projects after.
Sewing has been strangely addictive and therapeutic. And so far so good, the needle hasn't drawn any blood on my fingers yet.
I really loved the clutch! Checked out your link for “felties” and spotted alot of felt stickers for scrapping too… haha… might be inspired to start cutting into my stash of felt too!

Ooh…will look forward to seeing u use felt in your future scrapbooking projects.
That’s very lovely, Rachel. I like it and now I’m tempted to start this too. Saw lots of nice felt materials (both plain and with prints) in Daiso and I was so close to buying them! Haha. Since I’m a dummie in operating a sewing machine, this is the closest I can get to sewing 😉

Yeah…shopping at daiso is really tempting especially when things are perceived to be cheaper 😛 The felt there is quite useful, especially the washable ones. You can use them as appliques or explore the felt softies projects.
Hi there,
I came across your blog while reading someone else’s. Love your blog and your crafty-ness. Do you teach??
Hi JMummy, thanks for your compliments I don’t teach craft…I just enjoy doing craft during my spare time. Trying to see if I can make more, possible selling my crafty things to supplement household income…it’s really tough though, to find time for craft, manage work in myplayschool.net and fulfilling responsibilities as a mom and wife. Btw what are u interested to learn from craft?
