Beautiful day, clear skies….what is best way to spend the morning?
Outdoors, at the park with friends of course!
In the late afternoon, as the family was feeling a little rather adventurous, we took a walk in Dairy Farm Nature Park and went to explore Grand-dad's latest discovery from the park.
We ventured a little off the beaten track and took a short hike through overgrown grass and shrubs to the place where Grand-dad wanted us to see…
finally we trekked our way to a bridge over-looking these tracks.
While waiting for the train to pass, K kept himself busy,
And he was not the only one who was kept occupied while waiting …
K probably had more fun throwing rocks towards the train tracks, rather than anticipating for the train to pass.
Apart from this train discovery from the park, we have also discovered that K quite likes the challenge of seeing how far he can throw the rocks.
Finally, we got to see what we were originally here for…the train!
Which passed too quickly and was not that exciting, at least we got to see what we came here for that evening.
And K surely did not mind the wait one bit!
hi,
I was thinking of bringing my kiddos to see some old-fashion trains, and happen to pop by your blog. May I know how I can trek to this hill overlooking the locomotives?
It is so cool !
..and nearest carpark? thank you.
Andy
Hi Andy, this is at Dairy Farm nature park…I don’t know how to be precise enough to describe the exact location of this hidden trek in the park. Let me give this a try Instead of parking your car at the usual Nparks carpark for Dairy Farm Nature park. Go into the residential area that is behind Rail Mall (along Bukit Timah Road), the drive is known as Jalan Asas (which is the same entrance to enter Rail mall open air carpark. Once you enter into Jalan Asas, drive into the street leading to the houses, turn right on the 2nd turning and drive all the way to the end of the drive (before u reach a left bend). You will see a large grass patch at the end, start walking left on the grass patch and towards the end u will see the signs (on the right) leading to the nature park.
You will enter the nature park and go onto another granite path, walk for 700 metres. Look out for a small path on the right (there are no signs unfortunately)..walk for another 500 meters on the path and you will see a bridge, you can see Hume Avenue directly opposite from the bridge. Do check the schedule when the train leaves from Tanjong Pagar train station, for that Sunday we were there, the train passed the tracks around 6.20pm.
Wow!! Interesting outing!! I am sure my hubby would not want to do that under the hot sun!! He is not the ‘active’ guy under the sun!! But I am sure my son would love to do that!! You are so lucky both your love one enjoy doing it@!!
Yugene, most of the time it is just the two of us, Kyle and I at the nature park. Dh is not exactly very keen in being in the outdoors, sweating profusely under the hot sun as well.
thanks Rachel for the detailed road map. We tried trekking today.
– first turn-tight path was blocked by a fallen tree.
– second right-turn was actually a mountain-bike track (our stroller got stuck)
End up, we went all the way up the slope, and reach Quarry instead.
**no strollers next round
Will try again.

hey I miss staying in the west…the old train track used to be just a stone throw from where we lived
